I thought Smoothie Bowls were a fad, I assumed they’d disappear with as much gusto as they appeared (on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest…the usual fad-inducing suspects). But I was wrong, people seem to really love these bowls full of thick smoothie topped with all manor and mixture of healthy offerings.
So I put one to the test eager to make my own mind up about them. I used a recipe from Food Fix Up on account of being too lazy to generate my own – and risk creating something really average – sometimes it’s easier to go with what you know. So I selected one of the many on offer and off I went – I did however pick my own toppings and added some maple syrup to the base recipe for a little sweetness.
The review: filling, delicious and left with that ‘healthy’ feeling (you know the one where you eat one bowl of absolute health and it instantly causes you to forget the entire chocolate cake you ate on the weekend?). On a more serious note – the smoothie bowl is just a fun way of serving a regular old fashioned smoothie – like the one you would normally make and serve in a glass without the toppings….but I’m not here to hate. If an idea like this helps people to have a fun and healthy breakfast, I am all in favour of it.
I think that if I make these again it will be in mini version and served as a fancy breakfast side, rather than the main attraction. Because (in my opinion) bacon should always be the main attraction at breakfast…
